Went to a union social for young folks at my work on Tuesday. This goes against my rule of not doing things socially on Mondays or Tuesdays, but I chose to do it anyway because it was the only day that worked to see my work pal. Also, I’ve always meant to make a more concerted effort to engage with the union.

Attended my first meeting with the OISE student I’m mentoring. I did my Master’s at OISE and thought mentoring might be a good way to practice some leadership skills. Enjoyed the low stakes, low effort experience, and the person was enjoyable to talk to.

The Jays’ first game against the Dodgers was on Friday. We all expected to lose to the team. I’ve learned that the Dodgers are the team of the league. They’re Hollywood. They shine in the same way the Lakers shine. They have Ohtani, a pitcher with a $700 million contract. Toronto is most certainly the underdog team.

We went to Duke’s Refresher on Front. Baseball can be a long game, so I intentionally went into it with the plan to balance beer with other non-alcoholic drinks in between.

The Dodgers started by getting runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings, followed by us tying it up in the 4th. The 5th inning was quiet, and then holy hell, we absolutely cranked it in the 6th with a grand slam with another 4 runs. Like, what the hell was happening!!!

The bar was electric. A pal and I were out of our seats dancing. High-fives everywhere. At this point, I was two beers and three Diet Cokes in. I was jittery, I was pumped up, I was on top of the world. At the end of the night, I kept repeating, “I’m so glad we had this moment” to both the new and old friends I met at the bar. Here’s a little snapshot of me live-texting with my grandma:

Text message chain reading “Oh my gosh! Another one grandma!”. Followed by another text “WHAT??? AHHHHH!” Final text reads “GRANDMA THIS IS INSANE!”

Saturday was more low-key. Walked to Better Day Donuts to pick up the special donuts they’re serving on Game Day. Went to improv. Our showcase is next week. Got a haircut. Cried on the subway, because sometimes this girl gets overcome with feelings, and the world can’t always be glitter and sunshine. Thank the gods for my sister because she speaks the right words to soothe the soul.

We watched the second game last night. We lost, but I’m proud of how we played. I’m curious how Game 3 will go on Monday. I think we’ll stay home to watch. If we’re going to watch all the games, we’re going to need to be mindful of our stamina.

I have two books nearing their end. I’m in the last chapters of Private Rites. Started Zarna Garg’s This American Woman on audio. Zarna is a comedian. Comedians make great audiobooks ,which are perfect for my walks around the city.

And here I am on Sunday. Got to do random things around the house. Will make double soup* later tonight.

This week I’m enjoying Worth It. by RAYE. Try listening in the morning on the way to work with the sun creeping up into the sky. Added pep to my step.

*Double soup is when I double the ingredients to make double the soup so that I have leftovers to freeze. One of my proudest life hacks.
