This past week was a short week with two different celebrations. It started with Thanksgiving celebrations with the extended family on my mom’s side and ended with Diwali celebrations with the family I married into.
Lots of highway driving. We use a car share five minutes from our house. At what point does the rental car become your car?
Went to Owls Club to introduce my partner’s bandmate to the local gem. Sang Mandy Moore’s Only Hope for the Walk to Remember Fans. Attempted both parts of Promiscuous Girl. I’d give the attempt an 8 out of 10. My pals said they heard both Nelly Furtado and Timbaland. It’s very fast, so it needs work. Enjoyed a Corona and found my Karaoke Soul Mate (KSM).
Me: What is your Karaoke Go-To?
KSM: Celine.
Me: Are you serious? I’ve been singing her for 15 years.
Hours pass.
KSM: Want to sing Shania with me?
Me: Again - are you SERIOUS RIGHT NOW?! She’s my other karaoke queen!
She bought me a tequila. We sang, and then she swiftly left into the night.
Dear Karaoke Soul Mate - We are now bonded for life. Will we ever meet again? Only the universe knows.
I’m reading Private Rites by Julia Armfield. The city in which the book takes place has endless rain. Everyone keeps referring to the rain as an indicator of some kind of impending doom:
“I don’t know about you, but it feels to me like it’s sort of worse at the moment, or getting worse, or something. But then I also don’t really know what we’re supposed to judge that against, or do about it, so I guess what’s the point in worrying?” (p. 114).
Reminiscent of how I feel when I notice the never-ending increase of summer temperatures, or the deterioration of democracy. What to do? Vote? Become a vegan? Donate? I don’t know. Back to regular programming.
My partner and I are Toronto sports bandwagoners. The Jays are going into Game 7 before the World Series. I’m either going to experience euphoria or sadness later tonight.
Listening to Natalia Lafourcade. My partner found this artist and describes them within the same realm as Feist. I’m hoping to make this album our home’s signature listening playlist. Also, loving The Bear’s Soundtrack Playlist on Spotify.
